In accordance with the decision of the Kyrgyz Republic Government in 1992 Karabalta Ore Mining Combine OJSC (KBMP) has built the Refining Factory, whereat refining of all gold and silver that is extracted from the underground of the Republic is taking place. Starting from 1993, due to small volume of gold extraction within the Republic, yield of fine gold was as small as 2 tons per year.
In connection with putting into operation of Kumtor gold ore deposit that is not only one of the largest gold deposits in the Kyrgyz Republic but in the world as well, in 1996 modernization of refining factory took place, as a result of which productive capacity with respect to yield of gold in bullions has increased up to 40 tons per year. Furthermore, alterations were introduced into the technological scheme of gold-bearing raw materials processing allowing the processing of Dore bead with large silver content.
As a result of the factory modernization that took place, a section was organized for Dore bead chloration, delivery of which from Kumtor gold deposit started in March 1997.
In accordance with the Decree of the Kyrgyz Republic President “On measures for the further development of gold extraction and production in the Kyrgyz Republic” dated January 15, 2001 refining and gold ore production were transferred as a part of Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC.
At the present moment Refining Factory branch of Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC produces the standard (bank type) gold bars of about 11-13 kg, measured gold bars of 1000 gram and 100 gram of the highest fineness — 999.9, standard silver bar of about 25 kg of 999 countersign.
Determination of gold quality in fabricated bullions is carried out in the Central Scientific Research Laboratory (CSRL), which is included in KBMP. In March 1998 this laboratory received the accreditation in the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for carrying out of analytical analysis of Dore bead, and for certification of bullions: Gold in bullions — of 999.9 fineness, Silver in bullions — of 999 fineness.
The Refining Factory has been possessing “Good Delivery” Certificate of Quality from London Metal Exchange since October 1999, which in its turn brings the refining production in the Kyrgyz Republic in line with best world producers of fine gold. As of today, productive capacity of the factory is 40 tons of gold per year. Joint ventures that were established by Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC for the purpose of development of Djerui and Taldy-Bulak Levoberezhnyi gold deposits entered into commitment to process the extracted precious metals at Refining Factory of Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC.
